Phew! Our 2021\/22 season was quite the ride, and as Dead of Winter glides into 2022\/23 we\u2019re showing no signs of slowing down. We have a season packed with rich and diverse programming, including Andrew Balfour\u2019s Medieval Inuit<\/em> and choral drama, Notinikew,<\/em> as well as the 2023 Winnipeg Baroque Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrew Balfour\u2019s Medieval Inuit<\/strong>
Saturday, October 29, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Westgate Mennonite Collegiate (86 West Gate)<\/em>
Join us as we perform one of Andrew Balfour\u2019s works from his Truth and Reconciliation concert series. Inspired by Andrew\u2019s visit to Iqaluit, Medieval Inuit<\/em> captures the endless beauty and wonder of the North and features Inuit throat singers Aleatra Sammurtok and Zeann Manernaluk<\/strong>. We are dedicating this concert to the memory of Dead of Winter board member and long-standing board member and Manitoba Inuit Association President for several years, Fred Ford. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note, this will be a filmed performance (to be released as a concert film), and capacity is limited.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating the Carol<\/strong>
Saturday, November 26, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Crescent Arts Centre (525 Wardlaw Avenue)<\/em>
Come sing \u201ctra-la-la\u201d with us at our FREE, annual Dead of Winter holiday sing-along! Our singers will be joined by the changed voices division of the Winnipeg Boys Choir and co-directed by Vic Pankratz and Spencer Duncanson, performing both classic and contemporary holiday music, including a couple of special Georgian carols curated by Dead of Winter member Matthew Knight. As is our tradition, we offer free admission to our holiday concert, but we ask that you bring a food donation for Winnipeg Harvest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Montr\u00e9al Performance: February 24, 2023, Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de musique contemporaine du Qu\u00e9bec\u00a0(SMCQ)<\/em>
Notinikew<\/strong><\/em>, anchors an all-Andrew Balfour<\/strong> concert\u2014the perfect way to celebrate Louis Riel Day. The program will open with a number of the commissions that have made Andrew one of the leading voices in Indigenous music, including \u201cIspichiwin,\u201d\u00a0\u201cOmaabiindig,\u201d\u00a0and \u201cTrapped in Stone,\u201d\u00a0as well as old favourites like \u201cVision Chant\u201d\u00a0and the \u201cDomine Deus\u201d\u00a0from Missa Brevis<\/em>. Notinikew<\/em>, Andrew\u2019s response to the plight of Indigenous War veterans, will close the program, its powerful lament aided by Winston Wuttunee as narrator, Leanne Zacharias on electro-acoustic cello, Nolan Kehler as tenor soloist, John Anderson as bass soloist, Ojibway Song Keeper Cory Campbell, and the Winnipeg Boys Choir Trebles, directed by Carolyn Boyes.\u00a0At the invitation of the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de musique contemporaine du Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong>, DoW will also make its way to Montr\u00e9al, where we share this same concert with new friends in Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
