Guest Artists: Manitoba Ukrainian Choir Oberih

WinterSing! is Dead of Winter’s annual free community concert. This year, we are celebrating the Ukrainians of Winnipeg, both long-standing and newcomers, with Manitoba Ukrainian Choir Oberih, conducted by Olena Gissa-Kharchenko and Sergii Kharchenko. Come to hear stories, enjoy the exceptional beauty of this music, well-known carols, and sing-a-long surprises galore!

Please also note: Although we are offering this concert free of charge, it does come at considerable cost to our organization (performer fees, venue rental, marketing, etc.). We encourage like-minded patrons to help out by making a contribution small or large to allow us to continue offering this gorgeous music for free to everyone during the holiday season. A donation option will display when you are completing the reservation of your ticket, OR, you can make a contribution by clicking here OR, by donating at the venue on the day of the concert. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

About Manitoba Ukrainian Choir “Oberih
Established in 2018 as the church choir at the Cathedral of St. Mary the Protectress, the Manitoba Ukrainian Choir “Oberih” has grown to include approximately two dozen members. While the choir’s roots are firmly planted in church singing, its repertoire extends to a diverse range of musical genres, including spring songs, folk songs, carols, and ancient chants.

Under the expert guidance of Olena and Serhiy Kharchenko, the choir continues to evolve and expand its artistic horizons. “Oberih” is an active participant in various events across Manitoba, including the Folklorama festival, the Intercultural concert “Together in Song,” and charitable concerts such as “Strength in Unity.”

The name “Oberih” signifies an amulet, charm, or talisman. In the spirit of this meaning, the choir offers its musical heritage as a protective force, carrying the power of sincere thought, pure heart, and ancient sounds.
